Atsuko is an ordinary housewife. She is married to Akira and they have a daughter and son. Atsuko saves money for their retirement from her husband's salary and her earnings from part-time work. She is thrifty when it comes to money. Atsuko believes her life will be peaceful after retirement, but things change. She has to spend money on her daughter Mayumi's wedding and her father-in-law's funeral. Their retirement savings is reduced significantly. Making things even worse, Atsuko and her husband lose their jobs.
